<h3>Sonia Johnson découvre le jazz avec Michel Donato et enregistre <em>Don’t Explain</em> (2005)</h3>

<p>La chanteuse originaire de la Mauricie amorce son périple musical en chant lyrique à l’école Vincent d’Indy avant de découvrir le jazz au hasard d’une rencontre avec le réputé contrebassiste Michel Donato. Une fois la splendeur des voix de Sarah Vaughan, Karen Young et Ella Fitzgerald révélée à elle, rien ne va plus.</p>

<p>Sonia Johnson a la piqure pour le jazz et enregistre quelques années plus tard <em>Don’t Explain</em> (2005), suivi de <a href="https://sortiesjazznights.com/sonia-johnson-revisite-le-carre-de-nos-amours-au-diese-onze-14-aout/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Le Carré de nos amours</em></a> (2010), <a href="https://sortiesjazznights.com/sonia-johnson-le-coeur-a-lendroit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Le cœur à l’endroit</em></a> (2014), <a href="https://sortiesjazznights.com/sonia-johnson-chrysalis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Chrysalis</em></a> (2019) et <a href="https://sortiesjazznights.com/sonia-johnson-airs-givres/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Airs Givrés</em></a> (2021), enchaînant également des collaborations avec de grands noms du jazz tels que Marianne Trudel, Laila Biali, Félix Stüssi et l’Orchestre national de jazz de Montréal.</p>

<h3>Stephen Johnston</h3>

<p>Stephen Johnston débute son éducation musicale à l&rsquo;âge de six ans au piano. Après plusieurs années d&rsquo;études il tente le trompette et l&rsquo;euphonium pour éventuellement aboutir à la guitare. C&rsquo;est à l&rsquo;Université Concordia qu&rsquo;il étudie avec Dave Turner, Charles Ellison, Andrew Homzy, Simon Stone, Gary Schwartz, Bill Coon, Wray Downes et Mike Berard. Il forme Panache, son premier groupe, avec son frêre Paul Johnston à la basse et Adam Broughton à la voix. Après quelques années à performer à Londres et Frankfurt il revient à Montréal afin de poursuivre ses études @ McGill avec Jan Jarczyk, Joe Sullivan, Gordon Foote and Rémi Bolduc.</p>

<p>Il sort son premier album <em>Points On A Curve</em> (1998) avec Tilden Webb (piano), Fraser Hollins (contrebasse) et Dave Laing (batterie). En 2005 il lance <a href="https://open.spotify.com/intl-fr/album/7tT9tSmsrXW2cLSL63UeJ7" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Sojo</em></a> (2005), sept compositions avec Erik Hove (sax alto), John Fabroni (batterie), Adrian Vedady (contrebasse) and Paul Shrofel (piano/rhodes). A son actif il y également, sur la musique de John Coltrane, <em>Tranetrax </em>(2010) avec David Ryshpan (claviers), Evens Baptiste (percussions), Fraser Hollins (contrebasse) et Dave Laing (batterie) et <em>Sojo&rsquo;s Mojo</em> (2013). Les influences de Stephen Johnston sont enracinées dans le jazz, le funk, le R&amp;B, le soul et le rock&rsquo;n&rsquo;roll.</p>
